Venice always has one free afternoon too few. These 15 evening experiences justify the slot, priced and timed so you can choose quickly and get back to the canals.
Spend 90 minutes aboard a spacious catamaran, cruising San Marco Bay, the Giudecca Canal, and the lagoon toward Lido as the sun sets. A live saxophonist plays jazz, bossa, and soul, while you enjoy cicchetti and one included drink. Host Andreas and the crew welcome you aboard near Via Garibaldi.

Cross from St. Mark’s Square into the former Prison’s Palace for a short tour of old cells, a courtroom, torture displays, and a historic passage between prison buildings. Set off from Venetian Rowing with an English- or Italian-speaking guide for a small-group kayak tour through Cannaregio and, on some routes, out onto the lagoon. This 105-minute evening cruise leaves central Venice for the lagoon islands, including San Lazzaro degli Armeni, Giudecca and San Giorgio Maggiore. Your captain shares stories in English, Spanish or Italian, and you’re served Prosecco as the light changes over St. Mark’s Square and the Salute Church. The boat may be a Bragozzo or, for four or fewer bookings, a Sampierotta.

Cruise for 90 minutes from San Marco Bay along the Giudecca Canal, past San Giorgio Maggiore and toward Lido, with a live saxophone and one included prosecco or spritz. The route returns via Sant’Elena and the Biennale gardens. It’s a panoramic boat trip, not a stop-and-tour excursion.

Join a multilingual local guide for a 1.5-hour evening walk from Santa Lucia station through the Jewish Ghetto, Strada Nova, Rialto and St. Mark’s Square. Camilla has led the tour. You can add a short gondola ferry crossing for €2 if the whole group agrees, then take a free motorboat back to the station or stay near St. Mark’s.

Walk San Polo’s canals and narrow lanes with an English-speaking local guide, hearing tales of crime, political plots, forbidden love, and Venetian masks. Marina, Julia, Kiki, Elena, and Anita have led the tour, though your guide may differ. The 90-minute walk costs $33 and starts at Campo San Polo.

At the Prisons Palace beside St. Mark’s Square, spend about 45 minutes hearing about Venetian justice, the Council of Ten, and the people held in its cells. You’ll see historic prison spaces and punishment instruments with a guide. Guides have included Ticiana and a criminology student, but the specific guide is not guaranteed.
“Our guide was great! It was a multi-lingual tour and I did feel very bad since he did it all in English. There were 2 people that didn’t speak English and one couple left since they didn’t speak English. He was multi-lingual and did talk with everyone in there own language but it was primarily in English. He was super knowledgeable and more importantly, very passionate!”
Meet Nicoló and Aleksandra at the historic Reale Società Canottieri Querini for a club visit, paddling instruction, and a 3 to 5 km sunset route through canals in Cannaregio or Castello. You’ll need basic paddling skills and reasonable fitness. The small-group outing includes equipment, a guide, and photos, with part of the fee supporting the rowing club.

Join licensed, multilingual guide Damiano for a 1.5-hour sunset cruise in a restored local boat, with a quiet lagoon stop for photos before the boat returns through Chioggia’s Canal Vena after dark. The group is limited to five, and the meeting point is Comparato Dock.
